The model tenancy agreement was developed by the Government with the aim of producing an assured shorthold tenancy agreement which strikes a fair balance between the interests of landlords and tenants. Together with the guideline, the document gives you an idea of the common terms and what they may mean in particular situations. There is no legal requirement to use this particular agreement.
